Catch Up......Sorry Dad!

On Mother's Day, I created a post to celebrate my Mother, and now it is a full week after Father's Day before I have created this post.  Sorry Dad!
In my defense, we were in Tucson celebrating with him.  He got a big bag of peanut M&M's, a father's day balloon (that my nephew accidentally let fly away in the front yard), and lots of love!

George Durrant spoke to fathers when he said:

At your place of work, you are needed. But, sad as it may seem, there has never been a man who, when he leaves his daily job...or when he retires, is not adequately replaced... As one man said, 'I felt that if I left the company it would take a month or so and then I'd be replaced and they wouldn't even miss me.  But,' he said, 'I was wrong.  It only took a week'... But there is a place where a man has no substitute.  Not after a month or a year or a generation.  That is the place where they call him 'Father.' When he leaves home [for work], he's missed.  And until he returns, there will be an empty, unfilled space in the hearts of his family.

When I first read this quote, I immediately thought of my own Father and how much I love and appreciate him.
He truly is irreplaceable.
I'm so grateful to have a father in my life that has always put his family first.
Today, I reflected on one of the many small moments growing up that has brought me closer to my Father.
I was 16, and I was going to my favorite band's concert that weekend.
I was ecstatic.
I couldn't hold my enthusiasm in with a lock, chain, and bolts.
After discussing my excitement for the concert, my dear Dad took me aside and told me that he had to explain something to me.
I could tell by the tone in his voice that this was going to be bad news.
He told me that he didn't feel comfortable with me going to this concert because he discovered the area of town that it will be in.  He didn't think it would be safe. I pleaded with him that I'll be safe and smart.
And he said, "I know that you will probably end up being safe and perfectly fine.  But, I wouldn't be able to live with myself if anything happened to you and I could have prevented it."
I knew right then, and many other moments after that that my Dad really loves me.
And I love him too!

Happy Father's Day
